Chevrolet Silverado 1500
The 2022 Silverado 1500 offers a range of engine options. This includes the base turbocharged four-cylinder, two powerful V-8s, and a Duramax diesel 3.0-liter inline-six. The four-cylinder engine is quite strong for a base model, as it boasts 310 horsepower and 420 pounds of torque. The diesel-powered engine has the slowest acceleration of all four powertrains, but in exchange, this engine offers a smooth and quiet ride, 305 horsepower, and 495 pounds of torque.
Out of all the engines, though, the Silverado 1500's two V-8s is where this pickup comes alive. The 5.3-liter 355 hp V8 engine is optional on the base model and provides 355 hp and 383 pounds of torque. Then there's the 6.2-liter V8 engine offered on the ZR2 trim, providing 420 hp and 460 pounds of torque.
With a max towing capacity of 13,300 pounds, the 6.2-liter V-8 for Silverado 1500 is a one-capable hauler. While this rating dips for the 5.3-liter version, it can still handle up to 11,500 pounds when properly equipped. And models with the turbocharged four-cylinder can tow up to 9,500 pounds. Towing is where this model shines, as the payload capacity for this pickup ranges from 1,870 to 2,280 pounds.
The Silverado 1500 may be a powerful pickup, but it won't save you money at the pump. The optional diesel engine offers the best fuel economy, with an estimated 23/33 mpg. Though with all-wheel drive, the highway rating dips to 26 mpg. Meanwhile, the turbo-four cylinder with all-wheel drive is rated at up to 20/22 mpg, making the two V-8's the thirstiest model available. The 5.3-liter V-8 with all-wheel-drive is rated to get 16/22 mpg, while the 6.2-liter V-8 is estimated to get up to 16/21 mpg.

GMC Sierra 1500
The 2022 Sierra 1500 is also available with four engines. The base setup is a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder that produces 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. There are two V-8 options: a 355-hp 5.3-liter and a 420-hp 6.2-liter. There's also a torque-rich diesel six-cylinder that generates 460 pound-feet. Three of the engines hook up to a 10-speed automatic transmission, except the 5.3-liter V8, which is attached to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
With several different powertrain combinations, the fuel economy for this truck varies. Those looking to spend less time at the pump should consider opting for the optional diesel engine, as this model is estimated to get around 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. However, most Sierras will become equipped with the 6.2-liter V-8 when they buy any Denali model. So, its fuel economy will dip, as it gets around 16 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway when paired with all-wheel drive.
As for the power of this pickup, the Sierra 1500 can tow up to 13,200 pounds and support a payload of 2,240 pounds when properly equipped.
